We are missing it

Compassionate is a word by definition that means understanding the emotions of another and directly implies a desire and willingness to lessen the suffering of others. Why is this said to be in direct conflict to true conservatism? Fiscal conservatism simplistically means pay as you go. If you are reallocating some of Americas wealth to help some less fortunate, why is this at odds with conservative ideals. I contend it is not at odds with but essentially embodies true conservatism. Creative ideas on how to include the faith based community and the private sector are critical to an all encompassing discussion but a conservative government has a roll in helping the less fortunate. What that role is and how the role is played out and in what scope, those are the serious details in which the devil resides. This is where the discussion truly begins!!
